my life in 3 chapters

What is the 3rd chapter in life?

Harvard Sociology Emeritus Professor Sarah Lawrence-Lightfoot published “The Third Chapter: Passion, Risk, and Adventure in the 25 Years After 50” an excellent book describing her interviews with people 55-65 years old that have rediscovered new and exciting purposes in their lives. Her book inspired me to think of my own transition into this stage, where the biology of aging becomes evident which motivated me to reflect on the different domains that constitute my being (physical, mental, and spiritual) and ways I can harness them.

There is a profound connection in the 3rd chapter with the very popular topic of “healthy aging” and ways people are trying to hack their way to cheat time and be young forever, whatever their own definitions of young are.

Never Miss a New Post.

ABOUT ME

image.png

I’m a freeborn man, immigrant and citizen of the world. First time I saw light on this world was in Mexico City on December 20, 1966. I’m an average adult in most aspects but curious and highly dedicated in few others. I want to share some of my observations as I turned 57 years old in 2023 and my own reflections and experiences with you. Not meant as advice or recommendations but I want to share this journey as an exercise in expressing my gratitude for being here, as a therapeutic outlet to those ideas and the opportunity to chart my path and progression through life into the next chapter.

MY PICK
OF THE MONTH

Peter Attia's Outlive is a book summarizing the work and perspective of an MD, engineer, former consultant and now practicing concierge medicine.

A fantastic read into understanding the field of longevity from the lens of a rigorous evidence-based medicine, providing a simple guide to improve life quality. It has helped me reset and improve athletic goals on my 3rd Chapter in Life.

My favorite book chapter is the 'Centenarian Decathlon" a great reflection into how to prepare for the life quality during the last decade of lifespan.
